UGBS Professor of Marketing, Kobby Mensah Develops Innovative Software to Simplify University Admission for SHS Students

Kobby Mensah, a professor of Marketing at the University of Ghana Business School has developed an innovative software known as Admissions Checker, to simplify the university admissions process for Senior High School (SHS) students. The software uses students’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) grades and high school courses to determine their eligibility for admission to various universities and programmes.

Prof. Mensah explained that “The software is designed to provide students with realistic choices and opportunities for university admission. Students can receive a report indicating their admission opportunities in percentage terms by inputting their academic records.” While acknowledging the complexities of the admissions process, He emphasised that the tool empowers students to make informed decisions about their academic futures. “With Admissions Checker, SHS students can now embark on their academic journey with confidence, armed with the knowledge of their eligibility for esteemed institutions and sought-after courses,” he noted.

The platform requires users to input their high school courses, WASSCE grades, and demographic details. This information is then processed through robust algorithms to generate a detailed report of admission chances. Additionally, Admissions Checker offers a unique feature for students still in high school. SHS 1 students, for instance, can use their terminal examination results to evaluate their eligibility for university admission. This allows them to track their progress, identify areas for improvement, and adjust their study strategies before sitting for the WASSCE exams.

“This feature enables students to assess their readiness for university admission early on, helping them secure a strong performance in their final year,” Prof. Mensah explained. With its ability to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of admission opportunities, Admissions Checker aims to eliminate the uncertainty and confusion that often accompany admission processes.
